Modem Combo Units: Couple of options, 1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
I have att fiber and orbi. It works great but nyou need to get the right gateway. You do not want to use DMZ with this. What you want is IP passthrough. Set it up with this and the orbi works great. Make sure yo tell thgem this is what you want. Specify a gateway with IP Passthrough. You can request it and they will ship one. They do have more bthan one model but this arris i have is the latest. At least when i got it the beginning of them year.
As someone who uses this service. I had issues with the orbi working properly on DMZ problem solved by just getting the correct gateway to start with.
ATT will provide it if youy ask for it. Hopefully either way will work for them. You have to use the ATT Router. It is becase they identify the equipment by its serial number.
So you can't sppof its mac address. But just put thier equipment in ippassthrough and turn off wifi on its router. The orbi will work fine then. It is widely documented on the web.
There are some people who have gotten it to work in a partial pass through with other mesh systems, but I have been unable to get it to work with TP-Link Deco and 3 other single unit routers. I have had the pace AC. They will replace it. It should work for it if you want to run the Orbin in router mode. Thanks for the quick response, however, the Pace AC router has no "pass through" option.
I am still trying to find one that will work. None of them worked. I have spent hours and hours on the phone with ATT and even went to a store yesterday. Start a New Discussion. Do you have the Orbi App? With the app, you can install your mesh system in few steps - just connect your mobile device to the router network and the app will walk you through the rest.
Once set up, you can use the intuitive dashboard to pause Internet on your connected devices, run a quick Internet speed test, setup smart parental controls and much more. My Orbi app used to provide stats on data useage. Check Connected Devcies on the routers web page for status of signal of the Satellite connection.
You can check the status as well form the satellites web page as well.
However, the app will only work intermittently, if ever, because your ORBI will keep dropping the Wifi and internet connection. This has not been true for me. The Orbi has been more stable than any other router I've had in the past 15 years. I know it's sarcasm, but it's only true for a minority of users on here that the Orbi has been unstable for some unknown reason most likely due to environment.
This has to be expected. To perform any kind of traffic inspection or filtering, the Orbi has to become a router. You can setup your Orbi like that, but then you would have all your devices - and this includes the wired ones, to be connected to the Orbi system. This would also introduce double-NAT into your network, which will give you some headaches with UPnP since the actual router in front of your Orbi, which would also need to act on UPnP wouldn't know that.
So un less you can't - or don't want, to exchange your internet facing router with the Orbi router, you will have to let go of the Circles app and use the Orbi just as what it can provide in AP mode.
If you have a different router ahead of the Orbi router and want to run the Orbi router in Router Mode and take advantage of the app features, I recommend configuring the 1st routers DMZ for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the 1st router. This will help with a double NAT condition, then configure your Orbi router for Router mode, then you should be able to take more advantage of the app features. Hasn't worked since Day One. That's a good observation.
I am using iPhone X. Could very well be the issue. Yeah - seems to be an iOS issue. My Orbi is still on 2. That worked before the iOS update, so probably this is not Orbi's fault… well… at least this time. Seems to be an issue with Ookla or the way the Orbi tries to connect to their servers, as their speedtest seems to work generally. However, Ookla's servers seem to have undergone some facelifting and maybe that's the cause.
Run any speeds tests with a PC and a browser or the Ookla speedtest. NG is aware of the issue. This is a service issue with NG.

Mesh networks are designed to be modular. This means that your home network will consist of multiple Netgear Orbi mesh networking devices; one primary Orbi device that connects to your Internet Provider's modem, and up to three "satellite" devices that will all broadcast WiFi.
Netgear offers solutions for homes sizing square feet. While these distances are a rough estimation, other factors can increase or decrease the number of Orbi devices you might need to create a reliable WiFi signal in all the areas of your home that are important to you.
Getting started with Netgear Orbi mesh networking devices is not much different than setting up a traditional wireless router. All Orbi mesh networks must begin with a primary device or router. This primary device is made to connect to your Internet Provider's modem. This primary Orbi device is where your WiFi network begins, very much like how a traditional wireless router creates a WiFi signal in your home.
You can add up to three Orbi "satellite" devices in your home that will also broadcast WiFi. Having these multiple WiFi broadcast points ensures that all of your home is blanketed in WiFi signal. All Orbi mesh networks must begin with a primary device or "router. If you're connecting the coaxial cable to a connector on the wall, make sure that end of the cable is also firmly connected. If the Online Light fourth on the right doesn't turn solid blue within 10 minutes, you may need to contact your Internet Service Provider to be able to continue.
How do I configure my Orbi router to act as an access point?
When the Online light turns solid blue, the cable modem router is not yet connected to the Internet and it must be activated. This process will be covered later on.
You can add up to three secondary Orbi "satellite" devices in your home that will also broadcast WiFi. There are a number of Orbi satellite devices available from Netgear. For easier setup, place your Orbi Outdoor Satellite close to the primary Orbi device first.
Once it has been added to your WiFi mesh network, it can be relocated outdoors. Now that your primary and secondary Orbi devices have been physically set up, we need to make sure that they are properly communicating with one another. Thankfully, each secondary Orbi "satellite" device has a light that will indicate what our next steps need to be.
Take a look at the light on each secondary Orbi device in your home to determine which action you'll need to take next:. The LED will then light one of the following colors to show its status for about three minutes and then will turn off.
At this point, all of your secondary Orbi "satellite" devices should display a solid blue or white light. Retrieve the default WiFi Network Name and Password from the clear sleeve on top or the sticker on the bottom of the Orbi primary device.
